This last Sunday after attending mass. By the way, I am Roman Catholic and go to church every Sunday morning. My mother wakes me and my father up at 8:00 AM in the morning. Sometimes she wakes us up at 7 in the morning. But let me just say that I am not your religious zealot! Both of my parents come from a rural religious town in Jalisco, Mexico. My mother is a firm believer in that faith and absolution will save you. Anyway, I do not feel it is necessary to talk about this at the moment. What I do want to share with al of ya'll is this religious right wing newspaper I picked up at our local church.
What I quickly noted from glancing at the front cover was that these editors aren't progressive whatsoever! Heck! They used these out-moded terms to classify people who are of "Pro-Choice". There was an article that gave people a very rigid opinion on who to vote, for the upcoming November 2nd elections. These editors posted up pictures of these candidates who are and are not advocates of abortion. They labeled them as, "Pro Life" and "Pro Abortion". Well, I forgive them for at least getting 1 out of the 2 right, NOT! Correct me if I am wrong, but last I checked these people were known to be as, "Pro Choice" if I am not mistaken. I assume these people are the ones, who will be voting for Bush, come Nov. 2nd.
Another article that infuriated me was one about protesters who congregated outside a clinic where it is alleged that there have been people who have had abortions there. This lady who was one of the protesters was being interviewed and said the following: "The advertising campaigns promote the 'safe sex' with some type of protection. Protection against pregnancy. More clearly protection against the boy that can come. Since before it exist that he is no longer wanted and he is seen like a threat”. Hmmm, something to ponder that's for sure. (Please note that I translated from Spanish to English. Though I note that I am not fully fluent in Spanish, I tried my best to translate.) However, she went further by saying that, "The couples want to have sex, but of no way they want a son. The children who are not desired run a great danger of being eliminated. Sex is good. God created it, therefore it is good, but should be performed solely for the purpose of creation, to contribute to its divine plan. Not to have those passing moments, in which the animal instincts appear". Oh dear! This lady must be living a repressed sexual life without a doubt. This type of ideology is the kind which makes me spew. I know my mom would agree as well. We all know that the issue of abortion is such a polemic and complex matter. I think it is truly a Woman's choice.
