Repelling Fashion

I have a million adjectives I can use to describe the clothing Abercrombie & Fitch sells to numerous consumers across America. "Revolting" is one I like to use to describe their fashion statement. It makes me sick to think that many people approve of their vesture. Why do people purchase this type of apparel? Is it because of the sexually explicit images they use in their quarterly released catalogue, to portray what is, "Hip" and "Cool"? I hope not.

I was browsing several retail stores when I happened to stumble upon Abercrombie & Fitch and realized how ridiculously over-priced the clothing was. I know this is all coming from a subjective point of view, but hey, perhaps if you take a glance at these shots my friend took with his trusty camera phone then you might understand where I come from.

Who in the world will purchase this rag for 59.99? Notice how the whole shirt is completely wrinkled and worn-down.

This "trendy" baseball cap has shredded edges.

These shorts make me puke! The color has faded completely and the torn knee trims will not make it any better. These shorts look like they are 20 years old!

"If you want to look cool in peasant way, don't worry about buying new clothes. Look fabulous in your torn sleeves and shorts. Here at Abercrombie & Fitch we ruin your clothes while you pay full price"

Bush and his 399 Billion Dollar Defense Budget

Let me elucidate on the facts that dint our college dreams. This is what I like to refer to as an onslaught of Bush-ism which directly affects us the working class. One may ask where has all the money gone? Well, the money just passes us by like a wisp of clouds. Can president Bush pierce our hearts with an old rustic knife?

Since March 19, 2003- January 7, 2004, 8,848 U.S. soldiers in the army have been evacuated due to serious illness or injury. 557 U.S. Soldiers have died. (More die as you read) The National defense budget has spent a total of $399.1 billion in this fiscal year (2004) $379 billion goes to the Department of Defense, while only $17.6 billion goes to the Department of energy. Our beloved state of California is solely paying $12.2 billion for the war and growing.

Now these facts may seem illusive to many of us who wish to cease the derailing of our democracy.
- 1 B2 bomber= 12 Medical Centers
- 32.5 million Children could have been insured.
- 2 million students could have received a 4 year scholarship to any public university.

College Education and Tuition
- Nationally community college tuition increased 11.5%.
- California community colleges faced a 60% hike in tuition, the highest in the nation.
- Community colleges face cuts in financial aid, courses, and services.

What all this comes down to is plain and simple. It won't take a rocket scientist to figure this scheme out; this is not Hitler's master plan. Bush wants to bomb, invade Iraq, and feast on all the oil and make us the rural workers pay for the drudgery this man has planned. Enrich the rest of the rich folk who have an abundant amount of money, while my 63 year old father (The Rooster) works 65 hours a week to provide my family and I with the essentials.

Is this fair?

Teenage Blessing

Whenever I hear that a friend is having child, I chuckle and think, Woah! Should I feel happy for her or should I pity the fact that she will have to deal with instant nuisance? I figured it be best to rejoice with her and express my utmost degree of happiness. Well, as I was reading a blog that my beloved awe-inspiring ex-proffesor, who teaches Gender Studies and European History. He enlightened my mind and expanded my horizons with an essay that he assigns to his students for personal instances I would assume.

I would only hope that every teenage mom would get the chance to read these essays and connect with the author and perhaps take into consideration for what the author has to say. It certainly will not desensitize ones perspective of bearing a child in her early teens. "America does not have a "teen pregnancy crisis." We have a crisis of children born outside of marriage — to parents of all ages and classes, from impoverished teenagers to fifty-year-old movie stars. We have a crisis of maturity and morality." I strongly agree.

Where is my motivation?

Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Ballack has admitted that the unrelenting wave of criticism coming his way is beginning to unsettle him. The Germany international, regarded by many as arguably the best midfielder for club and country, has come under-fire for a series of anonymous displays especially in the Champions League. The former Bayer Leverkusen man followed up last Wednesday's poor offering against Real Madrid as Bayern were eliminated from Europe's elite club competition. What has affected his performance besides heavy criticism? Maybe Ballack should worry that the emergence of 19-year-old Bastian Schweinsteiger has also cranked up the pressure on him.

It is not the first time Ballack has been criticised for indifferent form. However, while in the past he has always been a confounding player to his critics with inspired performances. Unfortunately, now it seem that the Munich attacking midfielder admits relentless criticism has begun to affect his confidence.

Ballack mentions: "I'm a bit unsettled. I am a player who can deal with criticism but it's been a bit too much recently - it doesn't pass without leaving its mark."The fact is, I played badly in Madrid, but you can't base everything on one game."It's normal to hear bad things after the Real game, but it knocks your self-confidence in the Rostock game." I once had hopes he would sign for the, "galacticos" in Madrid. In fact he actually had an offer to join after a superb world cup campaign with Germany in 2002, but now one would only hope he will be fully fit for the upcoming Euro 04 games this summer!

Postvirginal World

It bothers me to hear religious folk yak about how teenage girls should be compelled to follow the rules that society imposed during the Victorian era. Heck, don't they know that virginity is now an outmoded concept??? Perhpas not. Fortunately, for many young adolocent girls, society has drastically changed it's view on how a woman's sexuality is exposed. I am happy to see that society does not embrace the false notion that virginity is the highest quality that we (men) should seek for in a woman. I truly believe that this type of thinking liberates ous sisters from a world that inflicts derogatory names to defenseless women.

Hail to our sisters! who can express their sexuality without fearing the contemporary conservative biggots!

Disarray

Without god, everything is permissible!A very controversial statement that someone in my English class had brought up. It certainly caught my mind off-guard when asked to give my opinion. However, I am not too sure where I stand on that issue today, but I ask, if that's the reason why religion is being imposed? We all know that religion can be considered a scheme manufactured by man. It gives us certain guidelines to follow. However, do our instincts let us know what is right or wrong? If I were to slay someone in the neck, then would I be dammed? Why is killing outlawed? Let's be very critical here, we are not too different from animals. We definitely have animalistic tendencies that we don’t admit to! Perhaps what separates us both is the fact that we have the ability to reason.

Kahn, Le-man?

Je ne pense pas si! Lately, Mr. Kahn has lagged big time. Perhaps he does not know that consistency is the key to a place as the No. 1 this summer in Portugal. It seems almost certain that Lehman is loaded with confidence assuming he will lift the "Double" and done exceptionally well in the Champions League. While Kahn will most likely come out empty handed after an under-achieved campaign with Munich and responsible for Bayern's demise in the Champions League. Who would be your #1?

Deformed Jargon

The word, “screw” is indeed an analogy that is interpreted in an offensive way. When you come to think that a screw is used specifically to devour a piece of wood and penetrate it with force, you begin to think that there is indeed a sexual connotation there.
Many males who want to indulge in sexual intercourse use it abundantly. The piece of wood that the screw goes into quickly resembles the helpless and submissive female organ. I see that word as something that quickly puts down women making them feel inferior. Men these days must have a big ego and I say it because they use this word so often that they feel is ok to be disrespectful to women not thinking about how that word can be sadistic!
